I strongly dislike being condescended to. And I dislike unwittingly being dragged into power struggles. I also dislike having my feelings and beliefs negated or dismissed as meaningless. Even if I personally dont believe in a particular religion or philosophy, far be it from me to categorically state said religion or philosophy is meaningless to someone who holds it dear as though I am some kind of ultimate expert on the human experience and know everything in the world. We all have different life circumstances and different reasons for arriving at the conclusions we arrive at. Its important, I think to respect that and try to understand where someone else is coming from rather than patting someone on the head and suggesting to that person in a highly patronizing manner that he or she just hasnt done enough reading. Most intelligent hipster types have some slight superiority complex and self congratulatory leanings (Yea for meI have good tastes in books, film and music. Not like those other yokels.) This is a bad habit but not truly offensive. However, unless youre Michelangelo or have a similar canon of widely respected and influential work, as well as a great deal of life experience under your belt, spare us your sanctimonious Im so much better than everyone else sitting at this table and thus Im going to roll my eyes at everything you say. Especially if the sum of your young life has been spent entirely in privilege and youd last about five seconds in the Real World ( the concept thereof, not the TV show.) Disclaimerthe above does not apply to anyone specific or anyone who has a diary on Gossip-Land (as Josh calls it) so rest your mind at ease chickiesI aint talkin about you.
